GREENSBORO - USA Track & Field has selected Coach Charlie Brown to lead the Junior men's team for the 2005 IAAF World Cross country Championships in Lemans, France next March. He is the current track & field coach at Southwest Guilford High School and the Greensboro Pacesetters Track Club. In this very prestigious position, Coach Brown will be accompanied by Annie Bennett, Senior Women's Coach and Wake Forest University Head Coach, Peanut Harms, Senior Men's Coach and Jean Cann, Junior Women's Coach. The coaching selection was made by the USA Track & Field Cross Country Committee for this highly regarded assignment.
Charlie Brown has coached 19 USA National Champions and sent over 100 Pacesetter athletes to 42 different colleges to compete in Track and Field. He has coached numerous North Carolina State High School Champions in the sprints, hurdles, long jump and distance races. Coach Brown and the Greensboro Pacesetters have held USA Track & Field National Championships in Cross Country twice at Bryan Park most recently the USATF Club Cross Country Championship this past December. These meets have led to new standards on how to run and manage meets. He is also meet director of over 20 events with 9,000 athletes at the well known Hagan Stone Park cross country course on an annual basis. "As this prestigious coaching assignment shows, Charlie Brown is highly regarded nationally and internationally in track and field circles particularly in cross country" according to Marc Bush, President of the Greensboro Sports Commission. "His role in USA Track & Field and expertise in conducting long distance running events certainly help Greensboro in bidding to host more track and field and cross country events."

Southern's Patience Coleman won't have much time to dwell on the Spartans' state championship game on Saturday.
As soon as the game ends, the 6-0 freshman forward will switch from hightops to track cleats and head to Landover, Md.,
with her family to compete in the Nike Indoor National Championship.
Coleman, who won the state's indoor high jump title last month, plans to compete for a national title at 10:30 a.m. on
Sunday.
Her leap of 5 feet, 8.5 inches last summer at the Russell Blunt East Coast Invitational set a national record in the
13-14 age group, while her 5-10 jump at the NCHSAA's open-class finals ranks No.2 in the country, according to
dyestat.com. Coleman averages 5.3 rebounds.

Mountain High Running Camp to Award Scholarships
Mountain High Running Camp, one of the most popular distance running camps for high school runners, is offering
scholarships for its upcoming summer sessions. The camp, held in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains near Tallulah Falls,
GA, features a staff of elite Kenyan and American runners and internationally successful coaches.
The camp, scheduled for the weeks of July 12-17 and July 19-24, attracts high school harriers from around the country,
but limits each week to 100 campers to maintain a low camper-to-staff ratio providing a rewarding educational and
athletic experience. Three all-expense-paid scholarships will be awarded to deserving runners this year. To get more

Jan 10, 2004: North Carolina Collegiate Big 12 Meet
Portia Baker of the Greensboro Pacesetters Track Club and a senior at
Southwest Guilford HS ran the 2nd fastest 400 meters in the history of
Indoor Track and Field for North Carolina High School athletes. Her time was
56.79. Portia also ran the 4th fastest 200 meters ever for North Carolina
athletes in 25.24.
The North Carolina Collegiate Big 12 featured some of the best teams in the
South including UNC, Duke, South Carolina and Olympic & open athletes from
the USA.

North Carolina high school girl, and was second in the 400m in 57.54. The track was 200m, unbanked.
Charlotte Harding's Kamorean Hayes threw 45-5 in the Intermediate Girls shotput, setting an indoor AAU national record
in that age group.

Freshman Tyrell Jackson (South View '03) won the 500m dash in his first
collegiate race. Competing for Neosho County Community College, Jackson
won the event in 1:07.27. The qualifying standard for the National
Junior Collegiate Championship Meet is 1:08.38. The head coach at Neosho
is Mark Adams, who has coached at Jordan, Northern Durham, NCSSM,
Smithfield Selma, Westover, Southern Durham, East Forsyth and Grimsley
High Schools and NCCU, Winston Salem State, Bennett College,
Fayetteville State and UNC Pembroke.

Neil Morris, longtime football and track coach at T.W.Andrews HS in High Point,N.C. died Dec.2nd 2003
after a heroic battle with cancer for the past 3 years.
He recently joined the coaching staff at Reynolds HS in Winston Salem, N.C. Neil was an outstanding teacher,
coach and a great friend who always had a positive
attitude and shared this attitude with everyone he met. He won countless coaching awards, as well as, three
consecutive state track championships. Words can
not describe the dedication he exemplified and the courage he showed at all times. If there's a Track team in heaven ,
they've just recruited one of
the best coaches for the job! Neil may be gone but his spirit will live on through all the coaches, athletes, teachers,
administrators and friends who
were blessed by knowing Neil. Please pray for his family.
